If you are given a call time for 8:00 A.M, always be there 15 minutes early. Being late does not look good, and everyone is expecting you to be there on time to get you processed through hair, make up, wardrobe and ready for set!
Remember the call time you are given is when you should be signed in, and you should not just be parking then etc. Always leave early incase of bad traffic, construction, parking and weather conditions etc.
If you are asked to be on set for a certain day, please make sure your schedule is 100% free that entire day, afternoon and evening.
Filming days can be very long, and it is important that you are prepared for the entire day and night, and have no other obligations on days you are booked.
Whether you are a background performer, crew member or actor we all are booked to do a job, and everyone is counting on you showing up. If you accept a day of work on set please only do so if you are 100% going to show up, as people cancelling last minute creates tons of last minute work for multiple departments. Every background performer is booked for a specific scene or role, and it is important that everybody is accounted for.
When you work on set you will be handed a white or green pay voucher for the day. Keep this for proof that you worked this day, as it states your rate of pay, hours and all of the information that accounting needs to calculate your pay. Mistakes can sometimes happen with payroll, so keeping this voucher is a good rule for every production.
Also, if you have enough of these vouchers you can eventually apply for an ACTRA union status as well!
CELL PHONES & SOCIAL MEDIA:
Please turn off your ringer and put your phone on silent when you are on set.
Do not take photos on set, and do not post on social media.
HOW PAY WORKS:
You are paid via cheque in the mail, at either the non union rate or the ACTRA rate. Pay usually is mailed out 3-4 weeks after your day on set. The accounting department handles all the pay with another payroll company, and background casting does not pay you.
CLOTHING OPTIONS FOR SET:
If you are asked to bring clothing options for your background role, please bring a numerous variety of appropriate options. This will make the costume department very happy, and will make it easier to get you 100% ready for set!
All clothes for set should be plain with no logos, and the more options the better!
HAVE FUN:
The last tip we want to add is have fun! This is a professional workplace, but set can be a ton of fun. As long as you are always professional, polite and follow the instructions on set you will do fantastic!
We hope these few tips help, and we look forward to working with you :)
